Tomecon cancellation details

3/13/2020

Please see below for more information regarding TomeCon cancelation details:
  1. Competitions & Awards - student and chapter winners for competitions will be announced online on the website via video or a published list. We hope to have these published by the end of the month. We will email when the results are posted. Trophies, medals, and certificates will be mailed to schools with winners. The Tome Team will be packing many of these items up this weekend to begin the shipping process.
  2. In-Person Competitions - Reading Bowl Championship rounds and Book Talk competition that were to take place at TomeCon are canceled. Additional information regarding official winners for Reading Bowl will come from Ashley by the end of next week. We encourage schools with Book Talk competitors to allow these students to present their speeches to an audience at your school to celebrate all of their hard work preparing.
  3. Virtual Conference - due to many schools closing next week and beyond, we will not be pursuing a live virtual conference. However, we have reached out to the presenters we had scheduled for the in-person event, and many have agreed to send a short video interview. We will compile these videos online on the website for your to share with your school. We hope to have these available by the end of the month. We will email when they are posted.
  4. It List Book Set Giveaway - we will still be drawing one elementary, one middle, and one high school name from the registrations to award a full set of the corresponding grade level 20-21 It List books to. These winners will be emailed directly, as well as announced on the website. We hope to have this information published by the end of next week. We hope to have these books shipped to winners by the end of the month. Thank you to the Clipper Petroleum Foundation for the grant to make this possible.
  5. Other items - registered individuals/schools will receive a package containing your official TomeCon 2020 buttons, It List bookmarks, and any t-shirts ordered.  The Tome Team will be packing many of these items up this weekend to begin the shipping process.  We hope to have these shipped by the end of the month.
  6. Refunds - we will be issuing refunds via check to schools or PayPal to individuals who paid by card, less a shipping and processing fee. We have not determined the exact amount of this fee, but are working to determine the appropriate amount and will let you know as soon as possible. We hope to have refunds issued by the end of the month.
  7. Individual refund as donation - If you purchased your ticket personally as an individual via our online JotForm (does not apply to schools) and wish to have your TomeCon ticket refund donated to the Tome Society nonprofit as a tax-deductible donation, please let us know ASAP by emailing [email protected].
Thank you again for your support and patience as we work through this unprecedented situation. If you have additional questions that were not addressed in this message, please email us.
Thank you!

TomeCon 2020 Canceled

3/13/2020

After much consideration and discussion, Tome Society has made the difficult decision that the TomeCon 2020 in-person conference scheduled for March 24, 2020 at UNG Gainesville cannot be held.
Over the past week, many developments in the COVID-19 global pandemic situation have made it impossible for us to proceed with an in-person gathering of over 3,000 people. We are, however, taking the day to consider the option and logistics of a virtual conference that would take place online on March 24th, if feasible. We will share more information about this possibility as it is decided.
We will be issuing refunds, less a shipping and processing fee, in order to mail t-shirts, buttons, bookmarks, and awards. We will provide more specific information about this process shortly as well.
All in-person competitions (Reading Bowl and Book Talk) are canceled for this year. Reading Bowl Championship participants will receive further information from Ashley shortly.
While we are devastated that TomeCon 2020 will not take place in-person this year, we hope that you will make plans to attend TomeCon 2021 next spring. Our 2021 conference theme is "Take the Risk."
On behalf of the Tome Team, thank you for your continued support and understanding. Please be patient with us as we work through this unprecedented situation.
Thank you,
The Tome Team

TomeCon 2020 - Find Your Spark!
We are already in the process of booking authors and other guest speakers for TomeCon. We think you will be very excited by who has already said they're coming! This is going to be another can't-miss-event. Please make plans to attend all day from 9am to 5pm to get the full experience.
Reminder - any school bringing students to TomeCon is required to provide a half or full-day volunteer for the event. Most of these volunteers will be acting as room & hall monitors and all of the volunteers are VERY necessary to make TomeCon a fun and safe day. Please begin planning now for who you will bring. Ideas- co-workers, retired teachers, parents, your family members, college students, etc.

Help us find sponsors!

The Tome Team is actively working to reduce the student ticket cost for TomeCon 2020, BUT we can't make it happen without partnering with sponsors for the event. Please help us by reaching out to your community members and parents who work with businesses that would be interested in supporting student literacy and getting their name out to 3,000 people from across the state of Georgia and beyond!
