​ Official Guidelines

The Tome Society Book Award Lists are "PG" reading lists comprised of new books readers won't want to put down. 

The Book Award Lists:
  • Tome Society Book Award - Grades 9-12, 20 titles (PG- language & content; PG-13- violence & themes)
  • Junior Tome Book Award - Grades 6-8, 10 titles (PG- language, content, violence & themes)
  • Club Tome Book Award - Grades 2-5, 10 titles (G- language, content; PG- violence & themes)

An Tome Society Book Award winning book:
  1. Is published within the last 3 years (some exceptions made for great books outside the pub date guidelines)
  2. Is available in mass market print through mainstream library book jobbers (eBook only titles not eligible)
  3. Has minimal use of profanity
  4. Does not include descriptive/blush-worthy sexual scenes 
  5. Generally has a message of rising above circumstances, making a difference, or conquering oppression, evil, etc. 

How do books get considered?
Tome Society accepts author/publisher ARC's or review copies throughout the year. Books for consideration can be mailed to:

We also scour the internet and other resources to find the hottest new upper elementary/middle grades/YA titles and accept recommendations from librarians, teachers, students, etc.
