Our goal for the Tome Society It List is to provide teens with a list of recently published, well-written, engaging novels they and the adults in their lives can trust to be awesome reads without worrying about strong language, sexuality, or other questionable content. At the Tome Society we believe in intellectual freedom and strive to protect it, but we also recognize a need for a Young Adult Literature award list that promotes high quality, clean books.

We believe teenagers should be encouraged through well-written, fun-to-read literature to rise above discouraging situations and cycles of destructive behavior; to make a difference in the world around them; to look beyond themselves and reflect on how their personal decisions will impact present and future generations. We believe YA Lit can encourage teens to express themselves without excessive use of strong language and promote healthy life decisions. For these reasons each year we search the world of YA Lit for new, fresh literature with minimal strong language, sexuality, and teens casually participating in illegal or destructive activities. The fact that finding books that meet these requirements is a monumental, almost impossible task reminds us of why this list is so important.
